Check furniture fit before choosing a layout
Draw the largest items to scale on the plan and check each door in its open position. Include the dining chairs pulled back and the space needed to make the bed. If something will not fit, compare the replacement expense with the benefit of the home before treating the issue as minor.
Room photographs can make proportions difficult to judge. Bring the dimensions of your sofa, beds and dining table, and check the remaining walking space. Include doors, built-in cupboards and window positions in the plan. Measure the lift or stair route if you have large furniture. A layout should accommodate the things you already own or the replacement cost you are prepared to accept, not simply look spacious when empty.
